The gites, La Petite Maison and La Belle Maison are not only based within the lovely, exclusive and private hamlet of Le Bois de Pommeau itself but the wider area is renowned as a beautiful area of France. The Vienne Valley within the Poitou-Charente attracts tourists from all over the world not just for the lovely countryside and wildlife but because there is such a wide scope of activities and places to visit - something for everyone. You may find yourselves returning to Le Bois de Pommeau with its choice of self catering holiday cottages year after year as there is so much to fill your holidays.

The Charente region of France is famous the world over for its Brandy and Pineau, and it is also noted for its pleasant sunny climate, Romanesque heritage, historical buildings and châteaux. The Charentaise buildings with their natural stone walls and attractive arches blending with the vineyards, sunflower fields, deciduous woodlands and natural flora and fauna make this region a delight for the pleasures of fishing, golf and gastronomy

Confolens (twinned with Pitlochry in Scotland), the capital of the Charente-Limousine, is an ancient town on the Vienne river, at its confluence with the River Goire, surrounded by rolling pastoral countryside. There are still picturesque remnants of its medieval past to view, including city walls, “dongon”, town gate,  impressive town hall , several "colombage" houses dating from the 15
th and 16th century and features a 13th century granite bridge with  the "Fontaine de la Fontrose", an ancient spring at one end.

Throughout the year there are many activities on offer including swimming, canoeing, rafting, rock climbing, archery, rambling, VTT cycling, shooting, bungee jumping, golf, panning for gold, painting and of course the famous velo-rail and plenty more.

If visiting points of interest is your thing then there are many chateaux and tourist spots within just a short drive including; the martyr village of Oradour-sur-Glane, the Roman springs and baths at Chassenon, the war memorial and graveyard to the resistance at Chassneuil, Brigueuil a fortified village, the Vallée de Singe where you can actually walk among monkeys, many lakes and rivers with beaches and leisure activities, local artisans – in fact too many to name – plenty to discover and explore for all ages.

Poitiers, Angoulême and Limoges all offer some tantalising pastimes which merit day trips.
