La Petite Maison

Pic 2

La Petite Maison sleeps up to 6 people and is a very welcoming self catering cottage within its own area of the tiny hamlet Le Bois de Pommeau on the outskirts of the medieval town of Confolens. The hamlet is reached down a maintained track leading to a large courtyard and has glorious views across the valley in all directions with the River Goire winding its way around the base of the hill the hamlet nestles atop. The cottage is lovingly restored and like its larger sister house La Belle Maison is also constructed with traditional stone walls and a 'pantile' roof which help keep the cottage cool in summer. Inside the hand plastered walls with the odd revealed stone is offset by all the lovely restored wooden beams throughout the 'gite'.

The fully equipped kitchen has a gas cooker/hob as well as a microwave oven for all your cooking needs. There is a kettle, coffee filter machine and toaster too. The dishwasher helps prevents arguments over who is washing or drying and the washing machine ensures your clothes are kept clean too! We provide all the crockery, cutlery, pots, pans and cooking tools you need – if you feel anything is missing just ask. There is a well-presented downstairs toilet with hand basin.

Leading off the beautiful wooden floored landing, with a great view over the garden of the cottage and beyond to the top field where the ponies and sheep graze, are three nicely appointed bedrooms, each with real wooden floors, apex ceilings and exposed roof beams, providing sleeping for six. A modern cot (and highchair) can also be provided free of charge but please provide your own cot linen). The family bathroom is also reached from the landing.

To keep your suitcases as small as possible – swimwear and sun tan lotion aren’t heavy after all –

We provide pillows, duvets, all bed linen, hand and shower towels Free of Charge. We do, however request that you provide your own swimming pool towels

Large private garden with shady outdoor eating area
There is a mid-landing on the stairs that leads out to the rear of the cottage to the garden area.
In summer, with the glorious Charente weather, (the highest number of sunshine hours after La Côte d’Azure) most of your time at the cottage will be spent outside enjoying your private garden.

Breakfast can be taken sitting at the table and chairs on the terrace under the shade of the parasol. Later you can relax on one of the sun loungers if you prefer a more horizontal position.

Elliot the cat checks out the swings
Feeling more energetic? Then why not play one of the outdoor games we provide; a double swing and climbing rope set, croquet and of course the traditional French game of 'pétanque'. There is plenty of room to lose any excess energy you or the kids may have!

Whilst in the garden check out the view across the valley – you can just make out one of the roads leading to the top part of Confolens.

The local, friendly farmer (a friend of the owners) keeps some of his traditional Limousin cattle in the fields surrounding Le Bois de Pommeau.

solid wood surround octagonal raised pool is 5.3m x 3.3m x 1.22m.

The pool is kept warm by a solar heating panel and an insulated night cover. Please note we cannot guarantee the temperature of the pool but during the summer high season the water temperature is an average 26 centigrade. Chlorinated and regularly maintained by the owners, the pool makes for hours of fun for the family or a quiet and relaxing dip to cool off in whilst sunbathing.
The pool has removable wooden steps on the exterior for child safety and a metal ladder internally for the more graceful entry!
